ACCESS TO VENUE
During build up and break down vehicle access to Carriageworks loading is via 229 Wilson Street, opposite Queen Street. See DELIVERIES, PARKING & STORAGE for more details.
Deliveries can only be made between Tuesday 10 September and Sunday 15 September. During the event exhibitors have access to the Halls 2 hours before the Fair opens each day and 1 hour after the Fair closes. All goods entrances and loading areas must be clear of vehicles prior to event opening.
ACCOMMODATION
Hotel options have been organised by a booking agent to suit a variety of budgets and locations please follow the link below for other options.
AISLES
In the interest of public safety all aisles, fire cupboards, appliances, emergency exit doors and public circulation areas must be kept clear at all times. If any activity on your booth will create a queue or an audience then you must leave room for visitors in your booth. The aisles are not to be used as queuing and viewing areas. All furniture and other booth displays including artworks, must fit within the boundaries of your booth as shown on the Floor Plan.
ALCOHOL
The following restrictions apply:
- Alcohol is not permitted on the exhibition floor during bump in and bump out.
- Alcohol provided for the purposes of hospitality must be supplied by the Fair Caterers, please contact the organisers for details.
ANIMALS
No animals are allowed on-site, except assistance dogs.
ART HANDLERS
If you require assistance in the set up of your booth, please contact IAS Fine Art Logistics for further details, or complete and return the booking forms prior to the deadline.
AUDIO VISUAL

AUTOMATIC TELLER MACHINES
There is an ATM machine located in the entrance foyer of Carriageworks next to the café.
BAGS
All bags (except handbags) must be left in the cloakroom for security reasons. The cloakroom will be operational one hour before the show opens and will stay open until one hour after the show closes each day.
BOOTH DESIGN
We actively encourage galleries to promote themselves and make the most of their Booth whilst at Sydney Contemporary. D3 Group can assist you in this by offering options on different coloured walls, furniture options, etc. so please do contact D3 Group to see how they can help you. Please ensure your Booth is professionally presented at all times.
Please be aware that vinyl lettering or other forms of additional booth signage are not permitted, included but not limited to gallery name/logo, artist names.
CATALOGUE
Artsy will provide the official online catalogue for Sydney Contemporary 2019.
On Wednesday, 31 July, you will receive an email from an Artsy representative with your unique log in details and instructions on how to upload images to the Artsy Online Catalogue. The content must be submitted by Friday, 23 August.
Our partnership with Artsy gives galleries the opportunity to showcase the works in their booth to a network of global collectors and we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity. You can see our Sydney Contemporary Profile page live on Artsy now, the online catalogue will be visible to collectors from Wednesday, 4 September.

CATERING
If you have specific catering requirements or wish to book on stand catering please contact the Fair Caterers. The organisers will forward the Fair Caterers Details on request.
CLEANING
Your booth and the aisles will be cleaned every morning BEFORE the show opens. If your Booth is covered by a nightsheet, you must attend and open your booth one hour before the show opens to allow cleaners time to clean. Please ensure that anything fragile is clearly marked/protected to prevent damage. All Booths MUST be completed by 12:00 on Wednesday 11 September 2019 so that cleaning can take place before the Fair opens at 13:00.
CLOAKROOM
The cloakroom will be open half an hour before the Fair opens and for half an hour after the Fair closes.
DILAPIDATION
No materials may be fixed in any way directly to the building walls, all exhibitors will be charged for any damage caused to panels by incorrect fixings being used. Please remember that you remain responsible for making good any damage caused to the fabric of the building by you, your contractors or your agents. Carriageworks is a heritage listed building.
DISABLED ACCESS FOR EXHIBITORS AND VISITORS
We would ask that you ensure that your booth and exhibits comply with relevant legislation and are easily accessible to wheelchair users and that all signage is as clear as possible for those with impaired vision. Disabled parking is available at Carriageworks.
DISTRIBUTION OF MATERIALS
The distribution of materials such as printed cards, handbills, circulars, leaflets from any area except your own booth is prohibited.

ELECTRICAL REGULATIONS
All electrical wiring and equipment not provided by the Sydney Contemporary official Contractor must have a certification to prove that it conforms to electrical regulations. Strobe lighting is NOT permitted. If displaying neon artworks, please contact EDL Electrical for advice. All electrical items must display a valid test and tag label. Items not showing tags must be tested onsite by EDL at a cost of $20 per appliance.
EXHIBITOR PROPERTY
Although the utmost care will be taken with security arrangements, Carriageworks venue management and the Organisers accept no responsibility for loss or damage to exhibitors’ equipment or property whilst it is on site at Sydney Contemporary. Exhibitors should ensure they are adequately covered by insurance for loss, damage and theft.
EXHIBITOR SERVICES
Please visit the Organisers Office for printing if required. The Organisers office is located in Bay 23 near the secure art storage area.
FIRE SAFETY
Please see the 'Health and Safety' tab for details on fire safety.
FIRE EQUIPMENT
All fire equipment must be visible and accessible to the public – under no circumstances should your furniture or booth material obstruct this equipment. For fire regulations, please refer to the Carriageworks Emergency & Safety Plan.
FIRST AID
If assistance is required please contact the Organisers Office. All incidents and accidents must be reported immediately to the Fair Organisers or security. Please do not call the emergency services yourself, Carriageworks co-ordinates with the emergency services directly to ensure minimum delay.
FLOORING
The Fair’s overall flooring style is concrete. Exhibitors can contact D3 Group for other flooring options such as carpet.
FORKLIFT
If you require the use of a forklift to move your crates, please contact IAS Fine Art Logistics for further details, or complete and return FORM 12 prior to the deadline of 2 August 2019.
FREIGHT INFORMATION PACK
IAS Fine Art Logistics is Sydney Contemporary’s preferred freight agent for the Fair. This internationally renowned company is happy to assist you with all your transport requirements including customs clearance, installation, short or long term storage, transit insurance and freight quotations.
FURNITURE
Harry the hirer is the preferred furniture supplier, who has an extensive furniture range. Please contact Harry the hirer for further details, or complete and return the order form prior to the deadline. The order form can be found in the Additional Order Forms section in the online manual. You are welcome to bring your own furniture if you wish to.
GANGWAYS
Your Booth furniture and contents must not encroach into the gangways and will be removed if they do.
HANGING ART
Due to the temporary construction of the walls, and the need for bracing, we strongly urge you to liaise with D3 Group regarding the hanging of your art to ensure that the walls are not placed under undue strain. If the piece is too heavy for the walls, D3 Group can also advise you on using the rigging points in the venue ceiling to hang or support your art, though additional charges will be applied.
IAS Fine Art Logistics is also able to assist with the hanging of artwork. Please contact IAS Fine Art Logistics for further details, or complete and return FORM 11 prior to the deadline of 2 August 2019.
HEIGHT CONCERN OF YOUR ARTWORK
If your artwork is 3 meters or above, it must be constructed under the supervision of Registered Structural Engineer. The Registered Structural Engineer must also verify the stability of the temporary structures on-site and submit a safety report to the Organisers prior to the first day of the open period.
If the artwork is 4.5 metres or above, they should not be erected unless a Registered Structural Engineer has verified their structural calculations and design for stability prior to set-up or erection. Any works of this height must be pre-approved by the Fair organisers.
IAS HELP DESK
IAS Fine Art Logistics will be managing a Help Desk for the duration of Sydney Contemporary. Located within the venue, IAS will be able to assist you with all your storage and transportation requirements, during or post the fair. The IAS Help Desk will also be offering a materials and equipment supply and rental service for your convenience.
INTERNET
Sydney Contemporary will have WIFI fitted throughout Carriageworks which galleries will be able to access. There is a helpdesk support number should you have any enquires: +61 2 9550 5001.
- The Helpdesk is for internet access support only and is not a general computer helpdesk.
- Access to the wifi network requires equipment capable of 802.11b/g/n and WPA encryption. Booths will not be given support on their hardware or software, and they must have all relevant patches or upgrades installed. Supported provided in connecting to the WIFI network.
- Carriageworks reserves the right to exclude users from the network who have viruses or other security issues on their equipment, or who are abusing the network service to the detriment of other users. Certain services such as bulk email sending, bit torrent and peer to peer file sharing will be blocked.
LADDERS
The use of ladders in excess of 2 meters in height is prohibited within the Carriageworks. D3 Group will be able to assist in this matter if this causes a problem. Please note, ladders will not be available for hire during the Fair. If you require equipment to hang artworks, please contact International Art Services in regard to hiring Art Handlers.
LANGUAGE INTERPRETER SERVICES
If you require the use of an interpreter during Sydney Contemporary please contact Sydney Contemporary for further information.
LOST PROPERTY
Any Lost Property should be handed into the Organisers Office. The property will be held by the Organisers for 2 months after Sydney Contemporary.
MUSIC
Music is prohibited unless it forms a part of the artwork you are exhibiting. Please inform the Fair Organiser if you intend to play music as we will need to approve the sound levels. All exhibitors must comply with PPCA and APRA’s licensing/copyright requirements for the use of recorded music, videos, DVD’s or any other published work covered under their licensing agreements. You are required by law to ensure you have the appropriate licenses. Please visit www.apra-amcos.com.au or www.ppca.com.au for more details.
N.B. Music requires the permission of the Fair Organiser. It is up to the exhibitor to ensure that have the appropriate permit during Sydney Contemporary.
NAMEBOARD
You will receive two nameboards on the entrance signpost panels to your booth. They will include your gallery name, booth number and city of origin. N.B. Exhibitors are NOT permitted to hang artworks underneath the nameboard. This section of walling is classed as a no hang zone.
OHS & SITE SAFETY
All persons onsite must wear a high visibility vest and wear closed toed shoes during build up and break down. You will not be permitted to access the site if you do not adhere to these rules. Children under the age of 16 will not be permitted within the venue during this time. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) meeting Australian standards must be worn on site at all times. You will be able to buy high vis vests onsite during build up.
OPENING TIMES
Please ensure all your staff is aware of opening times and your booth is open and ready for business 10 minutes before the opening announcement. If your booth is unattended when visitors arrive it reflects badly on the Fair and your Gallery.
PARKING
There is exhibitor car park on site at Traverser 2 on the west side of the building which is available for pre-booking only. The cost is $38.50 per day if booked in advance, please note parking will be limited to a maximum of one space per gallery. To book complete and return the Parking Booking Form.
PASS OUT FORMS
To protect the security of your work and exhibitors, artwork removed from the Carriageworks must be accompanied with a security pass out form. Pass out forms will be given to you in your Welcome Pack upon arrival at the Fair. Each exhibitor must be responsible for his or her allocated slips.

PHYSICAL BARRIER
Sydney Contemporary is a Fair open to the public. Please expect the Fair to be very crowded on the weekend and for inquisitive visitors to try and touch the artwork. If you are worried about valuable pieces being touched, you can put up stanchions to keep a distance between the public and your artwork. You can order stanchions (physical barriers) from D3 Group using FORM 8. DO NOT TOUCH signs are available from the Organisers Office.

POWER
Power will be switched off an hour after show closes. Please note that once the fair closes on Sunday 15 September power will not be reconnected for health and safety reasons. If you require power during build up and breakdown then please inform the Fair Organisers.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Buses, trains, and taxis will be in operation throughout the Fair, however the conveniently located arts precinct provides the existing framework to drive or take advantage of public transport.
Train: Redfern Station is an 8 minute walk, with Macdonaldtown and Newtown Station both a 10 -15 minute walk. Buses: 422, 423, 426, 428, 370, 352. Nearest stop is at Codrington Street at City Road, approximately a 5 minute walk to Carriageworks.
RESTORER

SMOKING
Carriageworks is a NO SMOKING venue. Smoking areas are designated outside of the Venue.
STAFF
It is imperative your booth is staffed at all times during opening hours. The Organisers cannot be responsible for any loss or theft from Booths throughout the show. Visitor traffic will be very heavy on the weekend. We would advise you to prepare enough manpower to monitor your booth, especially to keep artwork from being touched by the public.
STORAGE
IAS Fine Art Logistics will be offering onsite secure storage. Exhibitors will be permitted to store artworks onsite in an allocated area provided this has been booked in advance. Whilst in store all of your artworks will be managed by IAS’s in-house inventory management system and bar coded for identification. Secure storage space is limited and is allocated on a first come first serve basis. There will be a charge levied for this service. Please contact IAS Fine Art Logistics for further details, or complete and return FORM 10 prior to the deadline.
Sydney Contemporary also provides space for empty crates. Empty crate storage is free of charge, but please note that it will not be secure/managed over the course of the fair. Whilst Fair Organisers will do their upmost to ensure your property is secure, this area is a shared communal area for all exhibitors and the Fair Organisers cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage to property left in this area. All materials and stand fittings must be removed from storage after breakdown otherwise the Fair Organisers will need to dispose of them and the cost will be passed on to the exhibitor.
